Firstly I would like to say thank you to the others in this group for allowing me to join them.
Trying to get some of my long term works in progress organised can be something of a challenge as I swap and change my mind about which is the most important one. Then I came across a SAL which seemed tailor made for me. You commit to one project and post a picture of progress every third week. Everyone gets to choose their own project, and how much you do is again up to the individual – but that challenge of posting on a regular basis, seemed to be what would keep me focused.
It took a while to decide which of my many wips I would choose, but then for many reasons, not least that it is the eldest project (almost 12years so far), I chose Gracious Era. This is how it looked the last time I actually took a photograph of it which was August 2015.
and this is my first official photo for the SAL group.
I really do not have an awful lot of this chart left to do but for anyone who has used a dimensions chart, they will know that they are difficult to read. Many of the symbols, are the same sign but in different colours (sometimes so close that it is difficult to decipher between them), probably one of the main reasons this has taken so long.

Welcome Helen. I am new also. This is a very supportive and lovely group of ladies. Your project is beautiful. good luck with the colored chart. I really loathe them. Much prefer a good black and white chart.

well welcome to you too Cindy. I agree regarding black and white charts, so much simpler. However my father bought this and another by Dimensions to match it, for my Christmas in 2004 and he died shortly before that Christmas day, so though I have found it a difficult one I have wanted to finish it for him, and I will probably attempt the other one at some time for the same reason.

We’re glad to have you along. Charts can be a pain, especially when you lose your place in a great mass of one or two stitches of each of dozens of colours. I get discouraged too easily – which is why I stick to one colour such a lot! Well done on the progress.

That was the only picture I could find of my earlier progress, however the only thing I stitched recently was the lady and gentleman next to the lady in blue. For some reason I first started stitching on the right hand side of the piece. As I normally start on the left I just couldn’t get into the flow doing it, what for me, was the wrong way round. Then of course to check everything would match up I just had to continue across the top to the left hand side so I could feel comfortable stitching again. Hence the bits here and there look.

Lovely picture, looking forward to seeing this one stitched. BTW my oldest UFO which I finished earlier this year was 42 years old!!! and it only took 2 evenings to finish it!! so 12 years is a baby 🙂

IT looks like you’ve made a lot of progress already. It looks like a lovely scene too. That’s too bad about the chart being hard to read though.

There really isn’t that much to do its just that I needed some motivation to actually get it out again, and the group has given me that. I have always hated using coloured charts much prefer the black and white variety.
