SAL SUNDAY – 4th October 2020

Good morning my crafty friends. This is where my stitching was last time

and here is how it looked yesterday.

This particular block has been a nightmare. It is supposedly complete now however there are two mistakes on the left hand side. The bird is in the wrong place but its staying where it is -I just cannot face frogging l over 1 again. The other mistake I did not even notice until the picture had been downloaded The dragonfly is just done in normal cross stitch. If you compare it with the one on the right you will notice that is done as a Smyrna stitch. The line below the cats should have been done with two threads and it was called sprat stitch. I really did not like this but my friend advised doing it with one so it was taken out and started again. I did look better though I still did not like it and in the end I did a rice stitch over 4 threads which to my mind looks better. I have now started on the fence. This is the last big block with just a thin line of another special stitch below it so with any luck I could be happy dancing next time. There are a few bees and ladybirds done in one over one but mainly its normal cross stitch in this block so here’s hoping that it goes easier than the last block, which to be fair is the only one I have had trouble with.

Why not visit the others and see what they are working on – whilst most are doing cross stitch or embroidery there are other stitching skills included too so lots of things of interest there.

SAL SUNDAY – 12th September 2020

Unfortunately this time round there is little to show. The frogs have been up to mischief and I have spent more time un-stitching than actually stitching. For those who have never had to frog on l over l then I can assure you its not fun. Also the fact that I have not been getting on very well with this section seems to be putting me off it. I am thinking of sorting my next UFO out before having another try and if I still feel as though I am getting nowhere then I will make a start on that for next time. You will just have to see if next time you get the Baby Garden or The Village (which I have decided is my next UFO).

Anyway here is last times :-

Here is where I am now at – without the frogs interference this panel may have been finished but not even half way yet.

Our SAL is very different from other SALs each person is stitching there own cross stitch or embroidery design and the group is there to give support and encouragement, especially to those struggling with large projects. We are all around the world so are as different as our stiching. Do visit and see what others are up to but remember there will be time differences. The group is quite large at the moment so they will not be taking any new members at the moment – sorry.

SAL SUNDAY – 2nd August 2020

Good morning dear Crafty Friends. As you may remember last time I was having difficulties and could not post a photo of my work. I did manage it a few days later and at that time I did a follow up post but I know many of you would have not got that so here again was last times progress.

I had just finished the fish pond. I have finished this block and now also finished the small following block which ended with the herringbone stitch. The hearts I am stitching now are the first row of the following block, although it is attached to the last block so does not feel like I am on to a new one.

I am not much of a machinist and my sewing machine cost £20 from Aldi a good while back but I have been persevering and have made hubby and I another mask each (we only had one each which my daughter had got for us, but its only in the last week that we have really been out of the house and I now feel that we are going to need maybe half a dozen each. I really don’t want to be standing washing them out every night so this sounds like a sensible amount to me. Maybe some of you will tell me differently. Anyway I digress – without the time its taken to make those two whole masks I think the next block would have been finished too. Still I feel like I have had a productive three weeks and have made a fair bit of progress so all in all i am pleased how things have gone on the Baby Garden.

Very different from other SALs each person is stitching there own cross stitch or embroidery design and the group is there to supply support and encouragement, especially to those struggling with large projects. We are all around the world so are as different as our stiching. Do visit and see what others are up to but remember there will be time differences.

Missing from SAL Sunday.

Good afternoon my crafty friends.  Those who follow SAL Sunday will know I had a problem and I could not (for some reason only my computer knows), upload the photograph I had taken.    It didn’t help that I was starting to feel unwell either, but after a week in bed although I am feeling a bit weak my head is in a far better place, so I have tried again and brilliant – no problems at all.  So here is the picture I was trying to share with you in my last post.

2. baby garden 12.7.2020  I have a few cards to share that were finished before I became ill but as I do not want to be here long I will share them another day.

Hope you are all well

Sunday SAL -12th July 2020

Good crafty morning to you all.

I think there has been fairly good progress on The Baby Garden though the fish pond, where all the centre has been done 1 over 1 has taken its toll on my poor eyes and has to be done over a good few days.  Thankfully I got it finished for this SAL session.  So if you remember last time I had just completed section one.  1. Baby Garden 14.06.2020

Well much as I would love to share the photo of where I am now for some reason this is not letting me add any new photos to the media library.  On top of that I am not feeling to great at the moment so please forgive this next step.  I am therefore going to share the picture from the chart I showed you before JN140 and explain that I have just finished the fishpond approximately in the centre of the chart.  I now have the rest of that section to do and once that is done I shall be about half way.  If I feel better tomorrow I will have another go with this and try to get the actual photograph that has been taken on here but just at this moment in time the computer is very lucky its not learning to fly out the window.   Please go and have fun looking at what everyone else is up to instead.

Bits and bobs I’ve been up to;

Hello my crafty friends.  On Sunday we had our first outing into the big wide world outside the front door.  We went to visit with my son and daughter in law but of course we did not go to see them.  My grandson was celebrating his 18th birthday and he was the person we wanted to see.  We kept our social distance but it was still nice to do something that felt like normal.  So here is a picture of the young man himself with the birthday present from his parents.  thumbnail_IMG_1674 he is mad about Land Rovers and Jeeps but not only are they extremely expensive but he would not be able to afford the insurance and running costs one of those beasts would cost.  However he did get one from us as you can see from this picture.FOR OSCAR'S 18THNot quite as expensive to run, this is  the card I made for him.   His other love is roller coasters and his mum made him a roller coaster cake which he thought was great.  I thought so too, what do you think ?thumbnail_IMG_1666  For me life has been about stitching and card making so I will just share a few of my favourite cards from recent makes.   Actually apart from Oscars card, the only other normal cards I have made in the last month have been for a New Baby, A New Home and a Get Well card.

2. For Maggie & John Pearson3. For Sheila & Geoff GathFOR JAN FLY

Everything else has been Christmas cards.   The monthly sketch challenge for June was this one from Freshly Made Sketches.

6.TNS SKETCHI cannot say that I was very impressed with this one, but using one of my recyled toppers and some paper which seemed to go (though I did not like it);  I ended up with a card I thought was fairly reasonable.

On the weekly card challenge I was much happier with the cards I made.  Week 22 challenge was an all white card.  this one was very white and very sparkly, though unfortunately sparkle is difficult to show in a photograph.  Made using an embossing folder that was gifted to me by a friend. Wk 22

Week 23  was to make An Elegant Christmas card.  I chose this Josephine Wall artwork from a Joanna Sheen CD.  I love all the artwork on this cd but this is a favourite Wk 23

Week 24 was Make a Scene (without having a tantrum) lol.  So another recycled card was used to make this one. Wk 24 - 1 Week 26 was Silhouette.  I made this backing paper a white ago using a gold gilding polish from Creative Expressions.  It seemed to team perfectly with this lovely little Christmas Story die.   Wk 25

and this week was week 26 and the challenge was to paint something.  I have been playing with watercolour paints recently so thought that is what I would do.  It was not as adventurous as some of the beautiful paint techniques that others in the group did but I was happy with it. Wk 26  So if you have managed to make it to here then well done.

I hope you are all still staying safe and staying aware. We are far from being out of the woods so far and it worries me a bit that everything is being really more relaxed just as those of us who have been shielding are getting ready to venture out into the world again.  Whilst I know life has got to get back to normal eventually I for one am going to be taking things slowly. Baby steps will be quite big enough for me to cope with lol.

As always I will thank you for visiting, it is always much appreciated and whilst I love receiving comments on here, I am just as happy with the comments I get from those who I know and speak to personally.  I know a number of people who have given up blogging because they do not have enough followers or do not get enough comments.  But I write my blog for me as a sort of crafty diary, and when you are kind enough to leave a comment, a like or decide to follow this little bit of me, its a lovely bonus, like getting the cherry on top of the cake.

Hugs to Everyone

SAL – 21st June 2020 and a sort of apology.

Today is a special day and I have two events to share with you but firstly I must get to the point of the title.

Good morning crafty folks.  Well first I have to apologise though I am not sure what I did wrong.  I usually try to post my updates about three days before for this SAL (as mornings can be a real struggle sometimes and I don’t like posting late); and I schedule the post for early on the Sunday morning.  However last time I did this as normal but for some reason it didn’t post.  Why I have no idea but I honestly did post.  The thing is I don’t really go to look at my post so I didn’t even realise till well after the event. (like two weeks later when I went to post something else).  I guess I should have noticed that my email wasn’t informing me that worpress were not sending me the usuall posts to inform me of comments, but alas I didn’t.

I will show you the pictures I posted as a before and after i.e. the 10th May and the 31st of May as I thought I had made good progress.

With four new leaves along the bottom I was left with three more to do and a couple of critters I had missed on the way.   Well they went like the speed of light and on the 5th of June you may have heard me shouting with glee, when this happened – the first event

Ta da….. drum roll please :- EMS GARDEN ALPHABET Started 2006 Finished 5th June 2020 I have waited so long to finish this one and get it into the fire screen I had designed it for (I designed the layout, the flower alphabet was a monthly freebie from EMS Designs, and the critters came from here there and everywhere (with a few being altered to fit how I wanted them too).  So a few days later and this is what it looks like now:- DSCF8046

It was such a long time since I had actually stitched anything new so I had decided to pull in a new start (and hopefully finish) before I turned to the next UFO project.

So the 2nd event stepped up – Today we are breaking our isolation to go and hopefully sit in the garden at my sons house as we celebrate our much loved grandsons 18th Birthday.  I hope you, will join us as we raise a toast, “Much love and happiness for your future Oscar”.  You may wonder what this has to do with stitching and the SAL, but when he was born I didn’t make a birth sampler for him because my daughter stitched him a beautiful Precious Moments one.  Not long after though I saw a Just Nan chart called the baby garden which I couldn’t resist and thought I would make a birth sampler we could hang in our bedroom.   Almost 18 years later whilst looking for a new design I came across it and decided it was time it was done so here is what I have started for the SAL this time.  It may be 18 year late in the starting but I am hoping it will not take too long before I am at the finishing post.JN140 and this is what I have done so far.  I have just finished the first section.  There are some speciality stitches in this project and a lot of one over one.  So far the only speciality stitch I have done is the Smyrna stitches that are used for the butterfly wings. 1. Baby Garden 14.06.2020

I hope you will find the time to visit the others in this lovely SAL.  We all stitch our own projects and there are some unusual and beautiful ones to see.  Here are the links to the other members, but do remember some maybe a little later posting than others as we are scattered all over the world. Enjoy …

Cards – challenges and favourites

Happy Monday dear crafty friends.  I am slowly getting back into posting as its only two weeks since my last post.  Not as regular as I would like but better than I have been in the last few months.I will start with the last two weekly challenges.

Week 20 was a shaped or Fancy folded Christmas card, for which I made these two.   I was asked if I had ever won anything in the challenges.  So just in case anyone else has wondered that too then the answer is No.  These challenges are just for fun amongst the friends in our group and they are meant as a challenge to ourselves.  It is completely up to us to choose if we join in or not and so there are no prizes, just the joy of sharing with each other.

Week 21 was food or drink and I chose to do this fat cat with his pudding, and it looks like its not his first.WK 21           This weeks challenge is an all white Christmas Card, but I haven’t made mine yet.

Now for some of my favourites. I will start with this which is for my neighbours 65th birthday which is not until next weekend but she doesn’t get my blog so its safe to share.  Her daughters were taking her for afternoon tea at the famous Ritz Hotel in London, but of course that was cancelled because of the Corona Virus.  However it was my inspiration for this card.                                                                             For Elaine next door

This card was for my friend Karen who moved home last week. For Paul and Karen Fitzpatric

The following were my top three choice.33 FOR CHRIS WHEATLY536 for Oscar

My final selection are just cards I really like but I will put them together in groups and stop chattering so you may browse in peace.

37A SHIONA I wonder if you can guess who this last one was for?

I do hope you enjoyed looking at some of the cards I have made.  I would really love to hear from you if you have a minute or two to leave a comment and I will always reply if possible to do so.  If you don’t have a blog you may still leave a comment by logging into your google account and though I have never tried it I am told you can use your Facebook account too if you wish. If you try it please let me know if you can.

I shall be back next Sunday with  another update on The Garden Alphabet.  It seems impossible that its already over two weeks since the last Sal Sunday update, but I am pleased with the progress I have made so far and may even manage another leaf on the border before I need to take my  next picture to post for you all to see.

Hope you are all staying safe in these strange times.  As always I enclose hugs for those that may want or need them.  So until Sundays its

Hugs from me,
