SAL Sunday – Village of my Heart #4

this is where i finished last time
and this is where I am now.

I am not completely happy with the Heads and Hats Shop, I think I should have done the hats in the window one over one. They look out of proportion with the girl going into the shop but, if I had done the girl in normal stitching her head would be up to the bedroom windows – so its definitely the hats that are wrong. I really do not want to frog them as it would be a nightmare to do now. What is your opinion? I am putting a close up picture of the hats so you can see them more clearly.

the picture was taken this morning and its rather dark here today.

One thing I am pleased with is my progress this month. I even managed to make a start of this:-

which is a beautiful hardanger chart I received for Christmas.

Why not grab a cuppa and see what everyone else is working on but remember, members of this group live all over the so allow for time differences.

About stitchingranny

I am one of those people who need to have busy hands so whether its stitching or papercrafting, I am always doing something. I also love being in the garden, though hubby does most of the work there these days.

Beautiful work! Looking at the piece as a whole, I did not notice a proportion issue between the hats and the girl.

I agree that the hats do look out of proportion but I reckon, once you get more of the village stitched, they won’t look so huge.

  3. Great progress Helen and your other project looks beautiful, what a lovely gift. Once you pointed out the hats size I noticed it but not before! Maybe they are display hats for the window? Looks great I think. Keep well xx

  4. Cathie J says:

This is art so who says everything has to be in proportion. Maybe those are just fanciful display hats?

  5. Carole says:

They’re only a tiny bit out of proportion. Maybe they’re hats for going to Cheltenham. They wear some whoppers there 😉
    Your other project looks lovely.

  7. I wouldn’t frog the hats if it was mine. I didn’t notice their size until you pointed it out. I was too busy looking at your amazing progress 🙂 Your new project showcases my favourite colour scheme at the moment, pale green and purple. Gorgeous!

I think it’s pretty normal to see different proportions in cross stitch. Makes our little world of threads more interesting 😊

  9. I love the hats the way they are! I agree with Christina not everything is proportionate in stitching that’s what makes it whimsical. 🙂

I think the hats look great — like Kentucky Derby / Grand National style hats. I certainly wouldn’t frog them myself. I was even thinking how cute the girl looks next to the shop. Great progress!

  11. I decided against trying to alter them when I realised that doing them one over one would make them barely distinguishable as more than a little blob of colour one they were half the size.

  12. Sharon says:

This coming along beautifully. Decision made 🙂 no frogging ~ the right choice, I think once the piece is completed it will not be noticeable to anyone. Love the new project Helen!

  13. Thanks so much Sharon xx

  15. I think the hats are fine – elegant and for a special occasion. No frogging required!!!
