I finally finished the Tulip for letter T on Friday night. After a quick press I hung it over the back of the sofa ready for taking a picture, and it was then I realised why I had not enjoyed stitching this one. The flowers did not seem to have any definition, it was hard, if not impossible to distinguish between the medium and light pink and the dark pink looked orange. Although I am not going to do it yet, at some point the flower is going to be unpicked and re-stitched in more suitable colours. So here it is anyway and I am also including a pic of how much is done so far – a request from my friend Ann.
This is a SAL where we share our need for support in the project we are doing – be it big, small, a new project or an old project we hope to finish one day, if you would like to join us contact Avis (first name of the list below). In the meantime why not go and see what everyone else is up to.
Thanks for visiting me once again,
Hugs to you all,
I see what you mean , it’s still a very pretty project

Thanks Lucyann, it is a pretty project and I know it will be prettier when i sort those tulips out but for now I am going to try and ignore them until I am feeling happier with the project again.

I think they look lovely even from a distance

I know it will spoil the whole thing for me if I leave them, and when I have put so much work into this project I want it to be as near perfect as I am capable of making it Claire.

Some projects are just enjoyable are they? At least you’ve finished it, a testament to your perseverance! I do see what you mean about it being flat though. There’s not great dimension to it is there.

Certainly not when you compare it to the other flowers. Maybe if it had some back stitching but there are only odd ones that do,and this is really is just the poor colour choice.

So maybe add some backstitching? I think they blend beautifully, but some back stitching in either a shade darker or the main Backstitching color would define them without unpicking?

I did think of back stitching first but I just know I still will hate the orange, it doesn’t look as bad in the picture as it does in real life.

I really like your project. I agree so back stitching would help. But sometimes we just have to rip it out 😞

Yep and this is a case in point – I cannot live with the orange so it will be ripped out.

It looks lovely on its own but I can see what you mean. It doesn’t have the same definition as the others.

Thanks Carol, and I know I will never be happy with it as it is and really it is such a small bit in the scheme of things that i think its worth the effort to redo it.

I agree. It’d just annoy you otherwise as it’d end up being the focus of the piece for you.

It looks absolutely beautiful the way it is to me but I know that you’ll want to make it right for your eyes. Nothing wrong with that. Looks great 🙂

Yes the orange is a lot brighter in real life than it looks in the picture so out it will come – eventually lol.

Wouldn’t a little backstitching add the definition you’re missing? Such a pity to unpick those pretty things.

Thanks Kate but I know it wont solve it for me, better to redo it and be happy than find its something I just have to live with.

This is such a pretty pattern! I think the tulips just need back stitching. They seem to mirror the colors in the letter E and I can see the back stitching in that one. Great job! Hope you don’t have to frog to much of it.

I would do that if it was just the definition Christina but the orange stands out and shouts at me so I still wouldn’t be happy.

I see. We’ll hopefully it’s a quick stitch and will be nice to stitch in a color you enjoy 😊

I think I would try some back stitches before I took any stitches out. Not in black, but in a deeper shade of the colors in the flowers. It’s such a pretty project, I’m sorry you’re discouraged with it.

I have already started on the next letter U for Uvalaria, and its going better already, but I know bs will not solve the issue of the tulips for me so it will eventually be redone.

I also think back stitch might help. It is pretty.

This is really stunning. I agree with others who suggest back stitches. You don’t have many more letters to go.

Thanks Tony, I have already started on U – Uvalaria (lol I had to look it up in my plant book). However I know I will not be happy with the colours whatever so bs isn’t going to solve this for me.

If the only way for you to get satisfied with the work is to rip it up, just do it! I think the embroidery looks great!

Thanks Gun, its nice to know someone understands lol. I never going to be happy with it if I don’t.

This piece is so spectacular, it would be a shame if you ended up focusing on a section that you didn’t like. So out it must come! I look forward to seeing the other letters take shape!

Thank you and that is my thinking too, although I do not relish trying to unpick I know I will be happier when its done.

It’s such a pretty design, I think it would like fine with a bit of back-stitching but I also know the camera doesn’t always tell the full story and you’ve got to be happy with it 🙂

Very true and thank you. In the picture the darker shade looks peachy but its definitely orange in real life and as I am hoping when its done it will be mounted in a fire screen which i will look at everyday – so yes I do need to be happy with it.

Helen I think it is beautiful. From far away you can see the definition in the colors but you are right, up close it might be hard. I think once you get it all done you will enjoy all of them. 🙂

Oh I know that feeling, when it’s not right it’s got to come out! My next UFO project that I’m planning to share with the group next time – it involves a lot of unpicking…
Yours is a wonderful piece, keep chipping away at it!
